Some people can feel overloaded. Others often have to work late to hit deadlines. Or maybe some people's days seem to go from one crisis to another.

There is a huge transition when coming to college. A lot of things change and that can be overwhelming. In order to have a successful transition, a person needs to find a balance. Taking on too much or simply not knowing how to manage time efficiently may result in unnecessary stress.

Schedules

  • Keeping a planner can help organize information for classes 

  • You should go through each syllabi and jot down every upcoming essay, project, assignment and test.  

  • Set a daily routine for short, medium, and long term goals for your life, which gives you a vision on what you want to attain.  

  • Prioritize important information and due dates.

Getting Organized

  • Becoming more organized can be as simple as having a good, clean working environment

  • Clean and well-laid out desk and backpack helps to declutter not only your environment but also your brain

  • Use a folder system to organize different classes & filling out a planner are key organizers to increase/maintain a high GPA

  • Set rules and hold yourself accountable

  • Avoid distractions and give yourself allotted breaks/fun time

Study Habits

  • Do not cram for tests, space out studying and take breaks in between

  • Utilize tutors and study groups

  • Attend a professor's office hours for more help. Understanding how the professor thinks and what he/she is trying to teach students is key for understanding his/her lecture 

  • Create a regular time in your schedule to study for each class. This will prevent falling behind

  • Make sure you get adequate sleep and food. These two are key in the retention of info

Making Time for You

  • Make time for breaks. Constantly studying is not always beneficial

  • Make time in your schedule for things you enjoy like TV, movies, hangout with friends, etc.

  • Separate school time from hangout/break time 

  • Exercise 

  • Sleep

  • Eat a well balanced diet
